The Pre-Festival Activities have Begun!

We are enormously grateful for all the board members, mentors, trainers, sponsors and our team for the successful completion of the Digital Storytelling Workshop and we are highly proud of all the participants on their interest and growth throughout the #PIFFWorkshop.?
The workshops began with opening remarks from the President of the Karachi Film Society, Sultana Siddiqui, and board member of the Society, Senator (R) Javed Jabbar, in which Ms. Siddiqui addressed the vision for PIFF, while Senator Jabbar talked about the journey and future of Pakistani cinema.

Day 1 - #PIFFWorkshop

Day One included many influential speakers, sharing their knowledge and experience. The impactful sessions included a talk on the Development of National Cinema by Rasheed Norani, and an introduction to Filmmaking Steps and Identifying Stories by Salman Sirindhi, who is a director, producer and filmmaking trainer.

Interactive sessions also took place, led by incredible mentors such as Ali Ijaz and Tazeen Hussain, Umair Nasir Ali, where participants were asked to come up with and develop ideas for short films.

Day 2 - #PIFFWorkshop

Day Two began with an inspiring talk on Director's Vision by renowned film producer, director and writer Nadeem Beyg, in which he highlighted the various challenges faced during production, as well as various acting methodologies.

As part of the interactive sessions of Day Two, participants were encouraged to review and finalize their storytelling processes, before heading out to shoot at various locations. During this session, participants displayed their immense dedication and creativity while filming.

Day 3 - #PIFFWorkshop

Day Three was started off with a follow-up session conducted by the trainers, recapping the knowledge gathered and experiences shared of the past two days. A talk on Editor's Vision was given by professional film editor Rizwan AQ, as he discussed the history and development of editing, aesthetics, types of editing, careers in editing and its platform. The second session on Director's Vision was conducted by actor, director and screenwriter Sarmad Khoosat, as he explored the topics of genre selection, script development and casting considerations, as well as elaborated upon the role of the director in regards to filming, technical integration, team formation, as well production challenges. Finally, a session on post-production training was carried out by Ali Ijaz and Salman Sirhindi, before the commencement of the certificate distribution ceremony. Certificates were handed out by Ms. Siddiqui and academy award winning director/producer Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. Treated with enthusiasm on the part of both mentors and participants, the workshops proved to be a creativity-fueling success.

Mobile Screening

Following the three day workshops, the Pakistan International Film Festival organized for mobile screenings at various locations throughout Karachi, beginning at the Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture and the second mobile screening at the Abdullah Haroon Community Centre, Khadda Lyari. On 3rd March, screenings were held at 90 Campus, Auditorium of SZABIST, followed by a screening at Memon Goth Community Hall, Malir. The final day of the screenings, 4th March, began with a session held at Iqra University Auditorium, Main Campus, after which screening took place at Murshid Auditorium, Muachh Goth, Hub.
